YOUNG ARTISTS (6 to 16): Youth classes are offered monthly on Saturdays for $5 per class.
ADULTS (ages 17 & Up): Adult classes are offered on weekdays for $10 to $15 per class.

(at National Park Drive), Twentynine Palms, Wednesday through Sunday, 12 Noon to 3 PM.

YOUTH ARTISTS:
All materials provided by the gallery. Cost is $5.00 per class

Saturday, January 18, 10:00-12:00, (6 to 17 yrs)

  • Three-D painting
  • Teacher: Snake Jagger.  Artist of the month.  West Gallery
  • Learn to use color theory to create the illusion of 3D. 
  • Special 3D glasses provided with class.
  • All materials provided by the gallery

Saturday, February 8, 9:00-11:00, (6 to 17 years old)

  • Colored Pencil Drawing with Sandra Lytch
  • Design and create a colored pencil picture using a wide variety of colored pencil methods.
  • All materials provided by the gallery

Saturday, March 22, 9:00-11:00 (6 to 17 years old)

  • Impressionistic Painting with Janice Commentz,
  • Learn how artists use the elements of art to show feelings in art.
  • Paint like VanGough and Gaugan.

Saturday, April 12, 9:00-11:00 (6 to 17 years old)

  • Making primitive pottery with Mike Fagan
  • Use locally dug clay to make pots the way that the early Indian made theirs.
  • Pots will be fired by the gallery and returned to the students.

Saturday, May 17, 9:00-11:00

  • Magic paper pulp with Bonnie Brady
  • Learn to make paper and cast it into BAS relief compositions

ADULTS: 
All classes and demonstration workshops are held at the Twentynine Palms Art Gallery. The fee is $10. Materials and supplies are the responsibility of the participant.  Pre-registration at least one week in advance of classes will be greatly appreciated.

Tuesday, February 11, 9:00-12:00 noon

  • Soft Pastel Portrait Drawing with Sandra Lytch
  • Learn the process of layout, shading and blending with  pastels to create accurate portraits.  You may bring your own photo or use one of ours.
  • Material and supply list available at gallery

Tuesday, March 11, 9:00-12:00 Noon 

  • Foundations of basket making with Helen Matoush
  • Learn the ancient art of reed basketry
  • Materials supplied by the gallery. 
  • Lab fee for materials $5.00

Tuesday, April 8, 9:00-12:00 noon

  • Encaustic Painting with Ida Foreman
  • Learn the ancient art of painting with hot wax used by ancient Greeks.
  • Hot wax and painting surfaces supplied by gallery.
  • Lab Fee for materials and supplies $5.00
  • Participants are also invited to bring their own old bristle brushes and rigid boards to paint on.

  • Paint with Alita VanVliet
  • Use paint to explore Alita’s unique perspective of worldly things.

Tuesday, June 10, 9:00-12:00 Noon

  • Plein Air Painting with Oils
  • Esther Shaw will share secrets of outdoor painting with oil.
  • Practice seeing with a brush

Saturday, June 21, 9:00-12:00 Noon

  • Experimental Watercolor Painting with Darlene Morris
  • Explore a variety of watercolor painting techniques.
  • Stretch your creative imagination.

CLASS NOTES:
    Youth classes are provided with necessary tools and materials. Class size limited to 12 to maximize quality of instruction and avoid overcrowding. Cost is $5 per class, except where noted. Whenever possible, a waiting list will be created for a second class. Experienced practicing artists teach all classes. In addition to a strong emphasis on the fun of Creative Expression and skill development, teachers will help students meet the California Department of Education Visual and Performing Art Standards. Students will learn the language of Artistic Perception, the Historical and Cultural Context for work in progress, and how to make Aesthetic Value judgments about works of art.
    Adult classes are open to 17 and older art enthusiasts. No prior experience necessary. Cost is $10, except where noted. Participants are asked to bring their own materials and tools, except where an additional materials fee is charged. Payment is due at registration to assure space in the class.
    Classes are held at 29 Palms Art Gallery, except where noted. Printmaking classes are held at 29 Palms Creative Center, 6847 Adobe Road, (760)361-1805.
