ADULTS (17 & Up): Classes are offered monthly on weekdays for $10 to $15 per class.

Special Workshop: Portrait Painting with Mark Spangenberg

WORKSHOP FOR ALL AGES: Artist Mark J. Spangenberg, who grew up in Twentynine Palms and earned a B.A. at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and studied Fresco Painting in Salzburg, Austria, will teach a workshop in portrait painting to young artists ages 16 to 96. Artists are encouraged to use their favorite medium: oil or acrylic paint, charcoal, pen and ink, or pencil. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. $15 class fee, plus a materials list will be posted at the Gallery.

Winter Vacation Painting ~ Thursday, January 3, 2013  (9–11 AM) — $5
• Learn to mix perfect colors on a color wheel. Use Tempera Paint to do exciting designs
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Darlene Morris, MorrArt Design

WOW! Color Painting ~ Saturday, January 19, 2013  (9–11 AM) — $5
• Learn the ins and outs of Acrylic Painting. Paint on anything with exciting, strong, fast drying colors
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Janis Commentz, Studio Painter, founder Morongo Basin Life Drawing League

Water Works ~ Saturday, February 16, 2013  (9–11 AM) — $5
• Watercolor painting tricks of the trade. Wet washes to dry brush painting to create vivid color, visual texture.
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Candice Silsby, Studio Artist

Creative Beading ~ Saturday, March 2, 2013  (9-11 AM) — $5
• Learn the secrets of making beaded jewelry. Create necklace and bracelets
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Anna Houghton, Multi-Media Artist

Mosaic Gardenstones ~ Saturday, April 13, 2013 (9 AM to 3 PM) — $12
• Learn the ancient art of mosaic art design. Plan, create, complete a mosaic work of art.
• All-day class: 9-12 make the mosaic, 1-3 grout and complete the work of art.
• Lunch provided, 12 to 1 pm.
• Limit 8 Students, 10 to 17 years.
• $12 fee includes all materials and picnic lunch
• Taught by Michelle Mark, Multi-Media Artist

Three-D Collage ~ Saturday, May 11, 2013  (9–11 AM) — $5
• Assemble pictures, objects,  material and found objects into a Bas-relief composite form.
• Develop design and craftsmanship skills to create visual treasure.
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Bonnie Brady, Multi-media artist

Drawing With a Brush ~ Saturday, June 1, 2013  (9–11 AM) — $5
• Learn to use a bamboo brush. Draw free flowing lyrical line pictures
• 6–16 years old
• Taught by Esther Shaw, Studio Painter

Wrap It! (Jewelry) ~ Friday, February 1, 2013  (9–12 Noon) — $15
• Beaded wire-wrap jewelry: earrings, bracelets, necklaces
• Cost:  $10 plus $5 materials fee

Watercolor Magic ~ Tuesday, February 12, 2013  (9–12 Noon) — $10
• Learn a master’s secrets for transforming paper, color, water into vibrant landscapes
• Participants provide tools, paint, paper.  (Material list available prior to workshop.)
• Taught by Audrey Gillick, studio artist, master watercolor instructor

Encaustic Painting ~ Friday, March 22, 2013  (9–12 Noon) — $15
• Learn the ancient art of painting with hot wax to create vibrant rich color compositions
• $10 plus $5 materials fee.
• Taught by Professor Ida Foreman, college instructor, studio artist

Discover the Magic (Watercolor) ~ Friday, May 17 & Friday, May 24, 2013 — $20
2-Part Class  (9–11:30 AM both days) ~ NOTE NEW DATES! ~ Changed from April to May!
• $10 per class, $20 total
• Experimental Watercolor techniques
• Taught by Darlene Morris, MorrArt Design

CLASS NOTES:
    •Youth classes are provided with necessary tools and materials. Class size limited to 12 to maximize quality of instruction and avoid overcrowding. Cost is $5 per class, except where noted. Whenever possible, a waiting list will be created for a second class. Experienced practicing artists teach all classes. In addition to a strong emphasis on the fun of Creative Expression and skill development, teachers will help students meet the California Department of Education Visual and Performing Art Standards. Students will learn the language of Artistic Perception, the Historical and Cultural Context for work in progress, and how to make Aesthetic Value judgments about works of art.
    •Adult classes are open to 17 and older art enthusiasts. No prior experience necessary. Cost is $10, except where noted. Participants are asked to bring their own materials and tools, except where an additional materials fee is charged. Payment is due at registration to assure space in the class.
    •Classes are held at 29 Palms Art Gallery, except where noted. Printmaking classes are held at 29 Palms Creative Center, 6847 Adobe Road, (760)361-1805.
